Some facilities believe that cold turkey, an abrupt end to drug taking with no intervention during the process, is the best way. It is not comfortable but the pain and discomforts associated with it may make the addict less interested in slipping back into drug use. Others feel that the best way is slowly with medication to ease the discomforts making it a gradual almost painless process. There are many detractors of this method who feel this is just shifting dependence from one drug to another. Whatever the method used drug addiction programs are healing those who otherwise would be lost to the world of drug addiction.
